We are pleased to share a result that has been receiving considerable visibility in recent hours: an AI-driven application for the recognition and translation of Italian gestures.

The idea of Manuela Vitulano, Andrea Mamoli, Irene Lionetti, and Giorgio Di Pisa, who tackled the issue of gesture recognition through a surprising combination of creativity and engineering skills, has evolved into an application with potential uses in tourism, education, and intercultural communication thanks to collaboration with researchers at 3D LAB.

This initiative aims to promote Intangible Cultural Heritage, allowing non-native speakers to understand iconic gestures typical expressions of Italian non-verbal communication.

This is an example of how digital technologies can enhance and disseminate intangible cultural heritage, not only by studying it but also by making it accessible and interactive.
